Top ten films

Aki

At the risk of sounding a little prosiac, I'm finally adding my list of top 10 Films. This has been a long time coming and has been shaped over time by films that I keep returning to, ideas that permeate into my own work, be it design or moving image. I would like to add loads more to this list, perhaps it will expand a bit, and as always, its not conclusive.

I think many of these films are about integrity and vision. I'm still so nouvelle-vague about my choices, and I would like to include Truffaut's 400 coups, probably instead of Delicatessen; however Caro and Jeunet's films are such fun, that I can't pass it over. I'm not one for lists usually, all a bit linear and unemotional, but I've been asked so many times that I thought I should at least give it a go.
Repoman stays number 1 for ever.

Happy New Year to you all, and apologise for the lack of posts, this will be remedied I promise. I’ve got lots of things to post about, and I’ll get cracking right away. In the meantime, I’ve been leaving photos at flickr and I’m flirting with the idea of starting a livejournal so that way I can add a bit more information to the photos on flickr, post them direct and then leave dots and spaces for fun things i spot, articles, cool stuff i want to talk about, bands, films, bikes, etc. I’ll let you know soon.

Peel Day – October 13th

Peelday2

There’s a little night at The Edge of The Wedge to celebrate Peel Day. Hopefully, some noisy records will be played. You can find out what’s going on around the country at BBC Radio 1 and see if there’s an event near you.

*unfortunatley no noisy records were played as the DJ failed to turn up. Was a bit of a let down really, but heard some of the evening on radio1. Colin and Edith played a bit of Kid A and it sounded majestic. I heard that Radiohead never sessioned for Peel, but he said, had someone given him a demo of Kid A he’d have played it ’till it was worn out. Also enjoyed hearing his voice in little clips, felt like good times. Full tracklistings are here, some wonderful tunes.

New Orleans

Terrible what’s happening along the Southern Coast of Louisiana. When I visited Tennesse, we took a drive down south and I think of how awful it must be for everyone, across such a huge area. It looks again like the authorities are failing to act decisively and support the relief effort, that help is only just arriving, a week after the levees burst and the flood water rose. Again the people who really need help are the poor and disadvantaged, it just looks like no provision was made for senarios caused by hurricane Katrina.

bits of news

I found out that there’s going to be a new Pixies record, but Black Francis doesn’t know how he’s going to put it out, he doesn’t like record companies. Waiting in eager anitipation of the new Super Furry Animals record that will be called Love Kraft – funny that live reviews have been a bit lukewarm, but I know they’ll deliver. I really liked Gruff’s solo album, you can get it here.

Lance looks like he’s going to make it lucky seven although there’s no luck involved, just hard graft, he had us thinking that he didn’t want it as much this year, and I’d started to believe him, what a fool.

Sorry things here are slow in the summer, I’m out on the bike and work’s been hectic and the big day is imminent. King Ken growls at me when I’m working on the computer and I notice you can get little Silas figures for him to eat.

There are strange things growing in the flower beds in Leicester Square, only Mr Armcurl has noticed In fact I’m hoping they’ll show Charlie on the flight to San Francisco. I don’t expect it to live up the first movie, and it won’t touch the book (in fact James and the giant peach was my favourite Roald Dahl story.
