Ext.Wasteland – Day

From above there is the figure of a young man. He is lying on the ground, surrounded by the mud and dirt of the wasteland. He seems to have fallen from the sky, and unconscious where he landed. There is a presence above him, a flicker of tiny lights, a whoosh sound.

His fingers twitch and his eyes blink, he sees that his hand is sunk in a puddle of black water. The water shivers and a reflection of tiny lights, the water disperses and the lights become more distant.

TWO MEN stand in a doorway.

The 1st MAN gets a small shiny cigarette case out from beneath his coat, opens it and takes a cigarette out. He holds it in his mouth as he pats his pockets for a lighter. The 2nd MAN leans forward, his face obscured, holds up a lighter, lights it with his hand and holds it with a giant, ant- like claw!

The planets slowly revolve. A small Flying Saucer spins its way across space. It is discernible as a white bullet shaped flash of light.

The Flying Saucer spins from view. The stars shine brightly in OUTER SPACE.

There is a huge flash of white and everything dissolves…

Just a quick series of links to update you on stuff already mentioned on the site. Various sources, but would like to credit Kottke, there are lots of good links – in blog terms, this site is an institution.

One of the kids from Spellbound has started her own blog

Neil (where is your blog!) has found a great little site that finds places with stupid names if you pop your postcode in. Apparently I live close to Titty Hill, Balls Cross and Bushy Bottom…sorry.

Proctor and Gamble want to print adverts on Pringles…really…it says so atFool.com

Finally, another interview with Marc Craste at BBC Collective(which is a cool little site for alternative types), about Jojo in Stars.

Omlet make an Eglu

omlet

The was a great article this week called Dairy of an Urban Chicken Keeper. In it, the writer test drives an Eglu, which is the award winning chicken coop pictured above. The design is witty and clever, it looks like an old imac and shares the same colours. Omlet will provide you with the Eglu, some chickens, a bag of feed and lots of advice to help you start the good life. At the moment, our garden isn’t big enough, and I wonder how many people will have trouble when they want to go on holiday, pet passports just don’t stretch to chickens, nor will they take them into kennels, maybe a kind neighbour will water your plants and feed the chickens. Anyway, it caught my eye, and I think this is the kind of blog which should mention the Pixies and Chickens in the same page.

Record of the Week

best-of-pixies

This long awaited little gem arrived just the other day. I’ve been a life-long Pixies fan, they’re the only band I’ve ever actively stalked, getting Black Francis, Kim Deal and Joey Santiago to sign my ticket stub after thier gig in Portsmouth. I don’t remember seeing Dave Lovering, he must have sneaked past me into the van. I saw them a couple of times, back in the early ’90’s and really looking forward to seeing them next month at Brixton Academy. The ‘best of Pixies has most of the greats, but there’s a few missing – I would have loved to see Tony’s theme and Motorway to Roswell, which I think is a great, no River euphrates either, but we could be here all night. The DVD is ok…the documentary is very interesting, but really, the videos are pretty rubbish – Pixies just don’t work visually, except for Vaughan Oliver cover art. The video for Dig for Fire had me in stitches. Anyway, the rest of this package is glorious, Pixies are (go on..I’ll say it) the Greatest Band that Ever Lived.
