Working with creative people

This is a topic close to my heart, as I believe that life would be alot easier for many people in the creative industries if their non-creative colleagues understood that a different approach is often needed when working on projects together. I think that creative often lack understanding of thier non-creative counterparts too, so learning about the chemistry between the two groups is beneficial to all.

Firstly some articles I found on relating directly to this topic: What’s the big idea this is an excellent article from a psychologist’s point of view, which looks at the way inspiration works, and how people get ideas.Creative Workers, Who Are They and What Do We Do With Them? is a very interesting article, which helps managers to understand the way in which creative people work. It recommends nurturing and giving freedom to creatives, and forming an enviroment around them that allows them to work to thier highest ability. How to get ahead in advertising is more relevant to those working in advertising and media, but helpful nevertheless.

black keys

just a quick mention for the black keys, whose cd has been on constant rotation on my hi-fi and ipod. we had a great night at the wedgwood rooms. This is a great venue, and over the past year I’ve seen Gorkys, The Wannadies, Frank Black, Alfie, Dressed to Kill (surely the finest Kiss tribute band there ever was ) “Can you rock Southend?”, and probably a few more that I can’t remember off the top of my head – I think we might make a gigs typelist – so look out for it on the right hand side. Anyway, there hasn’t been a duffer yet? Shame we couldn’t get tickets for Ash…that would have been great, but we’ve got Raging Speedhorn coming up soon. (people at work think that I just make up these names…)

hits hits hits

Seems that in the first week there’s been over 500 hits – which is pretty good. One of the reasons seems that google picked up on my mention of Illustrator CS. When I had a look at the stats, though there were lots of people who linked up from my emails. hey…don’t be afraid, leave a comment…what’s the worse that could happen?

Pixies Reunion

Seems we were lucky, but Garry and I have Pixies tickets for the Saturday night. Its a bit surreal, and the afternoon I heard about it, I kept getting emails from all the people I haven’t spoken to since, well…the last time I was listening to the Pixies.

After seeing Frank Black before Christmas, its going to be a gig and a half. He played Caribou, Cactus and…something else, but I can’t remember. Maybe it was a hint and what his intentions were. It does seem a bit of a backward step, The Catholics are a tight outfit, and The Breeders are excellent and established now in their own right, but who cares, bring it on.

new banner

Thanks guys for the welcome. I’m still getting use to all of this. I thought that you might like a banner so that those of you with bonafide websites can link to me (and I to you – down at the bottom.) So please grab the above banner if you please. I think I might have a bit of fun with a constantly changing logo design. It’ll mean I get to muck about with new styles and try stuff out, and keeps it all from being too dull. I’m sure there’s a design term for a constantly shifting corporate style, but it escapes me.
