Working with creative people

This is a topic close to my heart, as I believe that life would be alot easier for many people in the creative industries if their non-creative colleagues understood that a different approach is often needed when working on projects together. I think that creative often lack understanding of thier non-creative counterparts too, so learning about the chemistry between the two groups is beneficial to all.

Firstly some articles I found on relating directly to this topic: What’s the big idea this is an excellent article from a psychologist’s point of view, which looks at the way inspiration works, and how people get ideas.Creative Workers, Who Are They and What Do We Do With Them? is a very interesting article, which helps managers to understand the way in which creative people work. It recommends nurturing and giving freedom to creatives, and forming an enviroment around them that allows them to work to thier highest ability. How to get ahead in advertising is more relevant to those working in advertising and media, but helpful nevertheless.

Photoshop CS at the NEC

News from the NEC is that adobe are pushing CS in terms of its capabilities for digital cameras, and to build a better relationship between the RAW data from the camera and the application itself. Sounds like some real innovations, including a great shadows and highlights feature that lets you find the image, even when silhouetted against the skyline.
I’m currently enjoying Illustrator CS, which has some nice 3D tools, especially useful for logos and visualising tiffs and .eps files onto 3D shapes. I know its not in the league of most CAD software, but for bits of POS and product design, its a big help.
